Spirit Tour 2015: The Culper Spy Ring: From Secrecy to Victory

TVHS Spirit Tour 2015 Group Shot

This year’s Three Village Historical Society Spirit Tour on Saturday, October 17th was an overwhelming success. The ability of the actors to create an authentic 1770’s atmosphere was astonishing. Interaction between the actors and guests made it an exceptionally interesting and fun tour for both adults and children– it gave a glimpse into the lives and cultures of the people living in the area at the time, and guests were encouraged to solve a coded message in their programs using information from members of General George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring along the way.

As the costumer for this event each year, it is very rewarding to work with the tour’s volunteer actors, docents, and coordinators to help bring these stories to life with our historical garments and artifacts. This annual tour is a real community effort: The Three Village Historical Society works in cooperation with both the Setauket Presbyterian Church and Caroline church, and local businesses donate food for the occasion.
